Summary

When the Bible tells us the purpose of something, we should pay attention. 1 John 3:8b tells us that the purpose of the incarnation (the appearing of the Son of God) was to destroy the works of the devil. The devil’s primary work is sin. Jesus destroyed Satan’s work by being the propitiation for our sin (1 John 4:10). The devil has no more leverage because Jesus has made an end to all our sin.

A Note from Brian

This message is very important and has great personal and pastoral relevance to me. Satan beats people up and he uses our sins to do it. The message of 1 John 3:8b is a liberating message for those who struggle with guilt and shame for past sins.
