The Tongue
We had the pleasure of having Judy Rogers in Septmeber. One of her songs from the CD Guard Your Heart is called "The Tongue." In light of our mini-sermon series from Prov. 18:20-21, "Christian Commnunity and Communcation," I thought I would post the lyrics.
He said that you said that I said that he was a liar
But what he said that you said that I said, it just isn’t so!
Can’t you see – that the tongue can destroy like a fire
When we whisper and spread around gossip wherever we go?
Oh, the tongue – it can cut like a knife!
Oh, the tongue can ruin an innocent life
Stop! Think about, think about the way that you say the things that you say
Oh, the tongue can encourage a friend
Or the tongue can cause a friendship to end
What will you say today?
What will you say today? – with your tongue
A forest can burn to the ground when a fire is started
It begins with a very small spark, then grows to a flame
Oh, the tongue be just like a fire, unguarded
It has power to bring about or cause trouble and pain
Oh, the tongue – it can cut like a knife!
Oh, the tongue can ruin an innocent life
Stop! Think about, think about the way that you say the things that you say
Oh, the tongue can encourage a friend
Or the tongue can cause a friendship to end
What will you say today?
What will you say today? – with your tongue
